what does a cold air intake do for my truck?
OK so I have a 93 Dakota its 4wd with the 3.9 l in it I'm puting a cold air intake how will that help it? Its k&n I can get it at any auto parts store so ya any info would be nice
^ Correct and K&N air filters let A LOT of dirt through that a paper filter would catch.
Here is what I did to help let more cool air into my engine using stock parts https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...r-cleaner.html (along with a larger 52mm throttle body https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ttle-body.html and the kegger mod https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...egger-mod.html).

myne had one on it when i bought it. chucked it the day i found a stock air hat and inlet hose. the air it pulls in with the stock setup is about as cool as you can get if it's all there and functional. the paper filters are better for you engine to.
i got worse gas mileage, less power and i had a issue with pinging with it on.
the stock parts worked much better for me. and the filter in the stock one is huge anyway so it isn't a restriction.
and the fact is even if the filter can flow more air your engine can't. you'd have to do some mods first.
