Default Towing question

Well I might be moving from Seattle to St Louis in the next couple of months and am trying to see what my truck can tow. It is a 94 Dakota club cab 2 wheel drive, it has the 5.2 Magnum motor in it also. I also have another car a 2005 Chrysler Sebring that I was wanting to tow behind the truck along with what ever of my possessions would fit, mainly my tools and what ever I would need to start out my living and of course the tv... I am not sure if this truck can handle this kind of move and that is why I come here cuz everyone is ho helpful. Thanks.

I'm sure you can. I've towed bigger cars with my v6. Add an external trans cooler if you have an auto and go easy on it. You should be fine.

Thanks for the info, is there any way to tell the weight that can actually be hauled though, there are different numbers depending on the rear end gearing on the amount that can be towed and there are two different numbers for the payload either 1450 or 2000lbs. It would be nice to know being that this would be a 2200 mile move and I can only do it once...

What are your gears? It should be stamped on the axle? Or maybe a tag. 3.2, 3.5, or 3.9... or if its the original rear in the truck email Chrysler and they'll send you an options breakdown for your truck from the vin.

My '93 3.9L V6 is rated to tow 5,200 lbs., and I have towed a 4,500 lb. travel trailer all over the country, nary a problem.

That V6 does good . . . I would have wanted a 5.2 to do that.

And Gasguzzlier in my opinion, that 5.2 will tow that Sebring mighty easy. I would take the advice to put a trans cooler in it.

ATF+ 4 is fully synthetic good stuff
do the cooler
the 11 x 11 plate type one with 1/2 inch in and out
1/2 inch lines like a diesel (there is a reason)
you have a 94 so you might have the early 30 degree helix on the palateries
This translates into no towing in OD
(what goes out is the thrust washers from the thrust and heat- then the OD grenades)
later 15 degree you can OD on the flats
straight cut diesel style you can use OD anytime
This is why some put 47 guts in their 46 case
are you two wheel towing the car or do you have a 4 wheel trailer?
brakes?
plan a flat route out of Seattle of you are on a two wheel dolly
Transgo kit with "back to low" is nice if you go over the passes
I'd stop at the top of the pass
put it in low
and go down around 3000 3500 rpm
If you are doing this during the heat I'd think Synthetic oil 5w 40 or Castrol Edge 5w50 the 5w xxx will work in St Louis next winter

47 guts in a 46 case? Thought the 2 were completly different? Does that actually work?
