I can't figure it out ahaha.. I relooked and turns out it does rub ever so slightly so very minimal shaving of the trim is required but if after market taillights are any thing like headlights they will be smaller

If the lens is easily separable then possibly an aftermarket Ram tail light lens on a Dakota reflector/deflector housing would work!

hahaha

yea the majority of those fixtures are smaller. that silver edge piece thats hitting the tail gate would probably be inward on a euro light.

now im having an issue finding the euro lights for his 1990 dodge ram

Not that its any easier to find, but I read once that the taillights from a Jeep Comanche pickup are the same as dakotas. Sooo, in my thinking, if the contour matches the jeep and dakota, then the taillights from an older cherokee classic SHOULD have the same contours, and potentially the same mount holes assuming the comanche wasnt some hybrid mount. regardless, I would bet that older cherokees are pretty dern tootin close. Now, the amber portion is a whole nuther issue.

I believe this guy mounted taillights in his comanche, from a jeep liberty, Soooo conceivably, we could probably use liberty taillights in a gen 1.

Ok, I got the info from someone on the comanche forum. Heres the scoop:

Gen1 taillights WILL fit Comanches, with trimming of the sheet metal.
Comanche taillights, though visually similar, are a double bulb system, whereas ours are single. Also, They are a bit smaller, and have no bezel.

His quote was, "Sure, they'll fit if you dont mind using duct tape, and looking like $..t."

Heres the comparison of Gen 1 on left, and Comanche on right.

I will now go bow my head in shame...and replace my headlight switch.

Woa thanks for the info!!! This may still be an option for us with a little wiring work around.

I'm looking into casting my own completely clear lens covers and painting the inside of the reflector housing black: http://www.alumilite.com/howtos/Tail...oEquipment.cfm
