Default transmission slippage

Without making a long story I had just pulled out of a driveway onto the roadway with the transmission working fine. Then I noticed it was running higher rpms than usual so I let off the gas and when I came back on it (gently) it acted like it was in neutral. Pulled over and noticed fluid leaking from front of trans so I added quart of fluid and tried again. Had to rev it in neutral a couple times before it would engage when in drive. Did the same thing again after a stop sign just around the corner and I barely got it to move again to make it the last half mile to destination. I let it sit for 1hr 15min and when I tried it the tranny engages just like it always has and doesn't feel like it slips. What is the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated

With mine it was the throttle body in the tranny that needed to be rebuilt but I decided to go with a complete rebuilt to save hassel of something else going wrong down the road and having to pull it again..

i would sort out the fluid leaking from the front you described. when you added fluid it has to get cycled into the converter, maybe thats why it took a while to work right?. might be time for a fluid flush and filter change, thats after the leak issue is solved.
