Default Hello All

Im new to this forum, just bought a 92 dodge dakota LE. Had a couple questions.

1. my fuel gauge does not work at all stays below E, any ideas?

2. the speedometer bounces around when im going less than 50mph and then from then on it kinda steadies out but not 100%, any thoughts on that problem?

Welcome to DF.

1. The fuel sending unit is probably mispositioned or it needs to be replaced. The FAQ has a write up on with with a replacement part number which is not listed at the autoparts stores.

2. On 93-down speedometers were driven by a cable. That cable is probably just slightly getting weak where it is making it jump at times. It is replaceable about $20 at Napa.

Speaking of speed cables, My speedo was +1 at 60MPH with 31" tires. with stock 235/75s it is -5 at 60MPH. I know my uncle ran 30s on it, so is the speedo adjustable?

yea there is a colored gear that is at the end of the cable that goes inside of the trans. they come in different # of teeth on the gear. it will say how many teeth there are on the gear and you just have to try different ones to get the right # too get the speedo too read right.

Yes you can change out the speedo gear. To determine what gear you need, you have to get your MPH on the truck and compare it to a GPS (most phones have one now days) at 10 MPH increments up to 70. Advage it up then take the overall % that it is off by and add that % to the # of teeth your current gear has to get the new gear needed. Some gears are cheap at $10 some are $80 or more. Your local Dodge dealer can get them.
