Cummins 10 speed?
Alright so I think I found what I've been looking for all in 1 package. There's a guy on cl that's has been advertising for months and months on end about a 1978 international cab over. It has a 290 cummins engine backed by a 10 speed tranny. I'm thinking that this would be cool to swap over to my 1987 dakota. You all think it would be worth the effort? I know I could sell it pretty easily if things don't go as planned. What's everyone's thought?
Not sure if that will even fit under a Dak...10 speeds are not very small..most likely a good deal bigger than the NV4500. If you want to do a cummins swap, as my brother says keep it simple stupid, do what you know for sure will work to get the best results.
A 4bt swap is probably the easiest, but I wouldn't discount doing a 5.9 cummins swap, may just need a body lift to stuff it all under the hood.

There is no way you could fit that engine and tranny in your truck. If you did manage to, you'd have no place to sit because it would take up half the cab. And it would make a pretzel out of your frame, too.
Fun idea, but never going to work.

It would never fit like stated before.... Completely pointless to even try.... If you want it that bad just buy the cabover and drive that. If you want a cummins in your dakota do a 4bt or 6bt swap... Its simple and been done before
