Default Couple 1995 problems!

I am new here, but have read through many threads and have found some very useful information on getting my new 1995 dodge dakota 4x4 ext cab. SLT v6 in tip top running shape!

I have a few other problems that I am not able to get working, please if anyone has any information that could help, it would be greatly appreciated!

My O/D light on the dash is permanently lit up. I know on a dodge this means that the O/D is off and it won't shift into 4th gear. The button feels a little squishy (doesn't click or anything when pushed) and when you do push it, the light wont turn off (O/D wont turn on). Any suggestions?

Also! I am having a transmission fluid leak that we have pinpointed to one of the lines (one towards the front) going into the transmission right by the pan. To fix this, is it possible to just disconnect the line and run a rubber hose from the line to the fitting on the transmission? Does the fitting have an O-ring that could be broken? What else would be causing it to leak from there?

Lastly, My 4x4 light on the dash will not come on when the truck is put into 4WD. It is not the fuse. What other options could it be?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if the switch is closed to turn off OD, or if the switch is open to turn off OD, but you could try just disconnecting the switch and see if your OD starts working again. If the switch is open to turn off OD, you still won't have OD with the switch disconnected, but if it is closed to turn off OD, your OD should work again.

As far as the 4WD light, does the light just not work, or does your 4WD not work as well? It's important to know, as if its just the 4WD light that doesn't work there are only a few things it could be, the light could be burnt out, it could have bad wiring, or the switch on the front axle to turn the light on could be bad.

If your 4WD isn't working at all, then your issue will either be the switch on the transfer case, wiring (as I believe '95 was no longer vacuum operated), or the motor on the front axle.

I took apart the O/D switch and I think it is definitely goofed up. It wont click, and its suppose to. I will be picking up a new one for this weekend.

As for my 4x4 light, it is just the light that isn't working. the 4WD works great. I would just like to see the light on when it is on.
