A small 50 rpm blip sounds more like a torque converter locking up than anything. I'm not even sure, do these have lock up torque converter?

Im pretty sure they do. I dont know, im at a loss. I was hoping this truck would sway me away from jap cars, but I'm not convinced. My corolla lasted me 400,000 miles and then some with the second owner. I guess Ill just take it in. No turning back now. I don't have the time to learn how to change a torque converter.

Well, if it's an automatic, it should have a torque converter. That's how the tranny becomes "disengaged" when you are at a complete stop, since you don't have a pedal to control the clutch.

Just for clarification, the question isn't if it has a Torque Converter, of course it does its an automatic, I wasn't sure if these trucks have a Lock Up Torque Converter. Basically a Lock Up Torque Converter, will under the right conditions, lock up, and provide a solid connection between the transmission and engine, and will eliminate any losses experienced from the fluid coupling of the Torque Converter. Often when they "Lock Up" people can confuse it with a gear shift, as it sometimes feels similar and can cause a small blip on the RPM's, but is often quite minor compared to an actual gear change.

I figured if the OP was experiencing a 50RPM change and thinking it was a gear shift into OD, that he probably was actually just feeling the Torque Converter lock up, as an actual shift to OD, should result in much lower RPM's.

Oh, sorry. I missed that. Yeah, it sounds like it's just locking up. 50 rpms is definitely not a gear shift.
