I can't believe how thick the rubber mounts are for the first generation Kota's. I want to install some urethane mounts for the engine and transmission but can't seem to find them. Anybody know a link?

 

Urethane mounts are to stiff, and you will feel every vibration. It will feel like the engine is running poorly due to all the vibrations you never felt before. Stick with stock style rubber mounts.

 

Yeah, Crazy is right. I researched this idea too, but rubber is way to go.

 

i just did mine with a proper hoist and it took 2 hours. Just a heads up.

 

That new engine is a hoss but it shakes a bit at idle, looks like it has a miss but I surely would feel a miss like that under power. I thought of a vacuum leak but can't find nothing internal or otherwise so I'm guessing it must be the cam. I guess if the shaking is irritating with rubber at red lights it would really bother me with stiffer mounts. I thought maybe the urethane mounts wouldn't let it shake as bad.

 

of course you know an in line 4 cyl engine with no balance shaft has a vibration that cant be balanced out. course chrysler made both.

 

raise the idle speed up a bit and it should calm down the shaking. depending on how big the cam is, 600-1000 rpm idle will let it run a lot smoother, but it does remove some of the lumpy cam sound.

Don't put a urethane trans mount in unless you also put urethane motor mounts in. Having a stiffer trans mount than motor mount almost guarantees cracking the trans housing if its aluminum.

 

Hughes Engines has an article on how to adjust the throttle position sensor, I think that might help some too. I'll get on it this weekend.
