what just happened?
took about a 10 minute drive and came back and this happened.. all of the antifreeze is gone, leaked out, and it was smoking in an odd spot, i thought it was odd anyway.. what do you think is the cause of this.. could it be the water pump?

It kind of looked like it might have been coming out from the thermostat housing or possibly the heater hose that connects in that same area (the one that goes to the firewall not the bypass). There is also the coolant temp sensor and the temperature switch right in that area too.
clean the area and let it dry so there is no more mess. Now add water to the cooling system, (dont worry about mixing up antifreeze for this test) and start the truck, Now go under the hood while its running and see where it's coming from. THis is the best way to find leaks.

If it didn't leak at idle its possible that the thermostat had to open first before the section of the cooling system leaked. Maybe thermostat housing or upper hose. Check the heater hoses too.
Really the best way to test your coolant system is with a pressure tester. But if you can't get it to a shop for that I would suggest warming the truck up to operating temperature then start squeezing the upper and lower hoses. This should make the leak show its ugly face. I played the eyeball game before and it is a pain in the ****, you replace one bad part and another weak part fails right after since its now the weakest link.

Took it to the shop they put a new water pump on and then they noticed it was leaking still. Ended up being timing chain gasket. Total for repairs 499.99 they charged an arm and a leg for labor. I feel broke now.
