ok so im new here just picked up a 93 2wd dakota sport w the 2.5, has 140k got it for pretty cheap w a rough body but ran well for about two weeks. one day i start it and i have to push the clutch almost to the floor for it to engage. drove it 5 minutes before i decided its best to park it. next day i start it to see how it feels and the clutch wont engage at all. fluid looks fine and full. what is going on? had no symptoms untill this..

sounds like the clutch master cylinder..........

thats what i was thinking, now that has to be replaced all together as the assembly ive read its not a servicable unit and has to be replaced together but autozone sells the master cylinder seperate as well?

as long as you can remove the fluid line at the master and there is a bleeder valve underneath off the slave then you should be able to replace it.

this is true.

the line can be separated from the slave and master. when i swapped the trans on my 93 i ran a ram setup till the line burned on the exhaust and replaced it with a setup out of a gm truck. it worked but bleeding is a pain in the rumpus.
the only problem, which you have found a solution to already, is finding the separate master/slave cylinders.

the whole assembly looks like someone messed with it before without wanting to do it the right way so im going to replace the whole thing. found it on rockauto for 103 shipped

thats a good price. i wish i had remembered rock auto when i need to replace mine. every one wanted like $300-400 for the set up.

though i do prefer a cable driven clutches. allows me to have more control over the clutch and allows for my girlfriend to not be able to wreck..er...drive... my vehicles...
