93 dakota acceleration issues

Question 93 dakota acceleration issues

I have a 93 Dakota (165,000 miles) ext cab 4x4 automatic with a 318 (5.2). I have a major loss of power when accelerating from a stop. I'm getting a whining noise while it accelerates, noise stops when I reach about 25 mph and power returns. Noise is coming from tranny as far as I can tell. Thinking its the torque converter, but I'm not positive. Any advise or thoughts would be greatly appriciated.

Possible the trans is starting off in second. could be any of a number of other things as well. Post up in the Dakota section, and folks there should be able to help you.
