Default Transmission help?

I have a 1994 Dakota 5.2L 4x4 automatic.
Just started not wanting to shift to 2nd. I adjusted the TV cable, but no dice.
It would shift up when letting off the gas, but now it is getting harder to do that. Seems to want to hang there longer, and feels like it its in neutral when you let up. Putting it in 1st gear with the lever keeps the truck locked in 1st gear. When you let off you know it is holding back. Unlike the D position it feels neutral after you let off.

thanks for any help!

My 1995 Dakota with 5.2 is doing the same thing. I will try adjusting the shifter linkage and the throttle valve. I am now wondering about transmission interchangeability with different years and full size trucks.

Here is a page I found while searching about my own tranny problems.

That is a 42RH. V8's have the 46RH

After I did a fluid and filter change, the transmission functioned for a few miles. And now has died. No jerks or jumps just slowly lost power. It is gone. Going in for a full rebuild.

If you can rebuild your transmission. Buying another is a gamble. The Dakota has a different thickness on the bottom than the larger trucks. Just be sure you know what you are getting. Wty is a must! You dont want to do this twice in 1 week!

I'm not going to gamble on another transmission. When I bought my truck I was given a bill showing that the transmission had been rebuilt. A year later I replaced the transmission mount and the only one that would fit was one for the 3.9 not the 5.2 in the truck. It lasted 120,000 miles. Since The rear end is worn out. My pcm is throwing internal error codes and 230,000 on the motor it may be time for this truck to go. Too bad it was a fun truck to drive. Maybe I will find another low mileage one.
