Default Fuel guage

94 Dakota SLT 4x4-When my fuel guage goes to just under half empty,it drops to almost empty and then goes back up after a while. It does that several times without going to completely empty. I know there is fuel in the tank and the fuel pump is pumping fuel.It can show empty under half or a quarter full, but I know I got fuel .I had the fuel pump replaced a few years ago but for a different problem. Thanks

yes.. its basically what fuel pump is attached too... it has a float attached to it.

your best bet would be to check grounding to it bt most of time to check the wiring to it will require taking down the tank, or removing the boxi found unbolting the box/fuel filler neck/taillights alot easier then dropping full tank of fuel

anyway this is on another forums but its from a forums member here:

How and where would you check the ground?Do you need to remove the fuel tank to check all the wiring?I haven't used my ohm meter in years.

That link from 92Dakota is good. I learned a likely reason my new pump isn't working. I think its 90 degrees off, I guess the arrow on the inside of the tank was not the direction I should have put the float in. ON the OP's final posts with pics the pic showing correct alignment isn't coming up on photobucket so right clink on the thumbnail bottom left choose view image then use ctrl and + to increase its size so you can tell what is facing what way when you look at the other pics.

If that doesn't work?
