Default 94 Dodge Dakota No Spark

I always hate asking questions like this because I know there can be multiple sources of the issue.

So I drove this thing home, parked it, went out the next day and it would turn over (plenty of battery) but wouldn't even think about firing off. I have pulled a plug out and placed it on the exhaust manifold, other brackets, etc. in an effort to be sure it is grounded and there is no spark at all.

So knowing (or at least I think I have confirmed) that there is no spark...what are some of the more common things that could be the source of this issue. I have a new rotor, distributor cap, plug wires, etc.

Any other common things that these guys tend to have problem with? It has the 5.2 motor in it.

Thanks in advance.

Bad coil?

I'll move you to the Gen 1 forum.

The 95 FSM on this page chapter 8D is ignitions. Apparently most of it applies to the 94

If you started it to drive it home look for starter coil probs, the bat may sound good but not have enough amps get it tested or put a known good one in to test the idea, possible ignition switch, fuses and anything ignition that may have jiggled loose or gone bad after shutdown.
If the battery turns out to be too low then your alternator probably has or is starting to fail.

Thank you. I will keep tracing. I have put a new coil on it so that is probably not it. I was really hopeful that was going to be the answer.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

00DAKDAN--sorry about putting it in the wrong place and thanks for moving it for me.

two things, In my reference to the alternator going bad, it would only be true if the battery turns out to be run down but still good. It is rare for both the battery and alt to go bad at the same time.
The starter has its own coil , that's the second smaller cylinder bolted onto it, that is the coil I was referring to. If you put in a new engine coil the starter coil may still be an issue.

This may be a "duh" for some, but check your battery terminal connections. My 94 was getting a bad buildup of green corrosion that kept the truck from getting any sort of spark.

Check your wiring harness under the Power Distribution Center next to the battery because some of the factory crimps corrode and you can loose a hot wire due to the corrosion. I had the same thing happen to me when I parked my 95 to rebuild the T Case. It wouldn't start, no power to coil. took about a week and a half to find the cause. 3 hot wires connected by factory crimp corroded and 1wire broke but held in place by harness cover found it by accident.

I would check the connections at the coil, ignition pickup in the distributor and CPS, especially if you replaced the plug wires recently. If you moved the ignition pickup wires or pinched them under the cap accidentally, that could cause no spark/signal. Also could've bumped the wires around at the back of the engine that go to the CPS/pickup connectors. Another possibility is, in the past, I have bought cheap replacement coils with a bad connection tab on them. The connector will clip on the new coil but you can push/pull it back and forth almost an 1/8 of an inch causing a no start/shutdown condition when they come loose. Literally had to flip the coil over and zip tie the connector down one time from cheap Mexican made parts.
