maintanence required light flashing while moving
Any body else have this issue? The light only flashes when the truck starts moving. It don't matter if I'm on the gas or not but as soon as she starts rolling it starts flash and will stop as soon as I hit the brakes.
FYI it's a 91 dakota with a 94 v6 drive line

Through this vintage, MAINT REQRD (or however it's phrased) is a kick on the EGR monitor.
Luckily for me, the 1988 can be reset with a pushbutton. Unluckily, 1989 and up require a trip to someone with the DRB(?) tool to reset ...

I don't have a battery for the truck so when I run it I swap the one from my idi out. The problem isn't resetting it the problem is that it flashes while I'm rolling down the road when I stop it stops flashing. Sometimes it stops in the on position sometimes it stops in the off position.
I've read this:
On older Dakotas, there is a black box behind the glove box. It's about 3" x 2" x 1 1/2". It has a 9 volt transistor battery that slides out of the end. Leave the battery connected. On the side of the box, near the battery end, is a tiny hole. Stick a straightened paper clip through the hole to press a small microswitch. The switch would be blocked by the battery if you didn't remove it. I can't remember if the ignition switch needs to be on or off when you press the switch. You're supposed to replace the battery at the same time. Just unplugging the battery won't turn the light off.
And this:
Only a dealer can reset it.
Try the first thing. Report back. Good luck.

In 1988, the "black box" is blue, and sits underneath the headlight switch, under the lower dash panel to the far left. It may or may not have a battery, but the pushbutton is there.
(I have one that wouldn't reset sitting in my shop area, and one from the boneyard in the truck now.)
Later on, according to this article https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...red-light.html the DRB II is required.

I didn't have an issue with it flashing, it just wouldn't reset, so I found another 1988 and swapped the module with it.
What I was getting at, is you may have to find someone who has the DRB II scanner or an equivalent to query the module and ask it "Why are you flashing at the human?", and then to reset it.

I was under the impression if any of your check engine or service 4wd lights were flashing while moving, that was your vehicles way to let you know something is about to destroy itself and it NEEDS to be checked.
