Default what year went electronic transmission?

Title says it all. Trying to find out if a 96 v8 4wd transmission is hydraulic or electronic controlled. Its a early model (9-95) Its not where I can look at it, at this time.
Edit to add, its an automatic.

its 318 and Crazy posting it on another forum lol

some reason it wont let me post other forums website? argh....the ****** are d o d g e t a l k <-- wont even let me post that wth

the 96 was first with the RE(electronic) with OBD2 .. all previous years were RH(hydralic)

From 95_318SLT the switch was in '96 when they switched to the OBDII computer. The difference is it went from a hydraulically controlled governor valve to an electronically controlled governor valve. Now if you're in desperate need for a transmission and all you can find is the rh, they will work fine (but might trip a CEL), but the re cannot be backtracked cause the old computers can't control the governor valve.

Yeah even though it's an RH transmission, the upshift and downshift into and out of overdrive (3-4 upshift and 4-3 downshift) as well as torque converter lock and unlock are electrically actuated by solenoids under the control of the engine computer (SBEC)
