I'm with 93_Ragtop - the extra .7L / 42CID won't hurt for horsepower production.

So I'd start with a 360 and work from there for horse power.

Agreed. Start with a 360. It'd be easier to get the power you want with it.

tbug, Just kinda thinking out loud here, but if you are rebuilding the 318 and if you plan to replace pistons, could you swap in a set of flat tops? Looking at this site, http://www.campbellenterprises.com/p...er-pistons.php It would appear that the compression would be about 9.8. I think the factory heads are about 62cc.
One other concern would be if the pistons weigh the same as stock and if so, it should keep you from having to re-balance the rotating assembly.

Sorry I might have to start working 6 days a week...I know, I know, that still leaves one full day and nights and mornings as potential work times.

I WILL get back at it. I have very little indoor space to work, but weather has finally improved here in CT so I have no excuses.

Please check hotrod magazine threat or engine masters magazine, they have discussed in detail on how to achieve 300 to 400hp out of the 318, by swapping heads, cam and long tube headers. Though they have spend a lot of time researching their information and made sure it would work. I would review that information before proceeding. Also I am currently about to do a cam swap and long tube headers on my dakota in a couple months. There will be a thread article about the procedure in the near future if you still have questions concerning this task.

Thanks T.C., I saw that article. Good info there.

Sorry guys...project still on hold. Been trying to keep my vehicles running. Most recently I've been having axle problems with my Outback (daily)...so I decided to stop messing with cheap aftermarket axles and bite the bullet on one from Raxles. Then I have the get the Outback to pass emissions (wouldn't connect to computer last time), then the Dakota...just lots of stuff going on.
