Question Power gone.

Here’s the situation. Hoping it’s not the ignition timing being off.
Ran out of gas (gauge broken). Anyway put a little in from a gas can, had a little water in it. Got to the gas station put in good gas. Ran okay but seemed off for 2 days. Then was been getting low again. Going up an Ozark hill, it would not kick into overdrive. Just stayed slow. Then, it’s sputtering and getting slower on level ground when I put on the gas pedal (idles all right). Put in gas. Doesn’t help. Step on gas and it hesitates/pops/sputters at about 10-15 mph. I find the Vacuum hose going from the pcv valve to the throttle body housing is broken/hole in it. Replace it. A little better. Check Pcv valve, it’s frozen closed with gunk. Clean it so I can hear the valve rattle and move. It’s a little better. Idles okay. Press on gas it hesitates/pops/sputters at about 35 40 mph and won't go faster.
Thanks,
Jim

Fuel filter, and past that - what motor and what year is your truck?

I got some bad gas in my 1988 3.9 with the throttle body injectors, and it took a couple of tanks of gas to get it back right.

I'd also be fixing that gas gauge soonest.

That's been in the back of my mind, the fuel filter. I'm gonna change that.
Also, I didn't realize it may take a tank (or two) to clear out the water. Mine is a '93 3.9L V6.
Thanks!

Replace the fuel pump and filter. If the fuel pump cannot maintain fuel pressure you will experience power loss, knocking, sputtering. If you are going deep enough to change the filter, change the pump.

It was water in the tank. Anyway, it's a '93. Fuel filter is in-line against the frame under the drivers side. Fuel pump is in the tank. '93 was the last year that the fuel filter was not in the tank.

Actually *ahem* there's a strainer in the tank also.

Tulaviok - the guy who got tired of crap in the gas tank killing the fuel pump in the gas tank, I bet *grins*
