Default Ignition timing 2.5L Dakota sport

How to set timing on idle with timing light, I guess there's really not a way to set the timing. Part of it the motor is control by a computator or computer.

You are in the wrong forum you need the https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota-66/ the 1st Gen Dakota forum.

This forum is the 2nd gen 1997 to 2004 you cant adjust the timing as its locked down all timing is controlled by the CPM/COMPUTER.

Interesting to see how different the 1st Gen looks

I'm just imagining how nice it would be to have all that room in my engine compartment. OEM electric fan reduces parasitic drag, or was that a mod?

4bangers usually got an electric fan to help reduce the parasitic drag.

Also because some of the 4bangers used weren't designed up front for RWD, and don't line up with the radiator well enough *grins*

I'm sorry, I have the same motor AMC and AX-15 transmission. Diff. shell or body. Yeah my daily driver, It's got over 200,000 miles. Own for 12 years, I just thought I give it some TLC. I replace timing chain and I thought I could play around with the timing ignition setting. I guess not.

I"m unsure of what you did. As a rule on the V6 and V8 I would assume it is the same on the 4 bangers the distributor cannot adjust the timing on these vehicles. Turning it will change when the injectors fire and the ECM will compensate the timing to keep it in the preset parameters. Technically I suppose you can make it so the injectors don't fire when the intake valve is open. Shouldn't there be a hose from the grill to that box on top of the passenger fender on your intake?

Minor correction onemore94dak - on the Magnum V6 and V8, you're right.

On the LA V6 and V8, yes, due to the design, altering the distributor WILL adjust the ignition timing (it's what I did to get base to 14* or so which really, REALLY wakes up the LA 3.9 ... )

onemore94dak,

I did find a plate that can be remove to fit a hose to the intake from the grill. I just have to find the right part to fit in to the box, then the motor will sure breath a lot easier. My goal is to get up to 300,000 miles without rebuilding. I have heard that this is a good motor. I cruise it at 70 mph and the motor is happy.
