**UPDATE**
Okay, so I got the ax-15 in and in a working state, but lots of little detail work still needs to be done.

First off, I had read that the transfer case wouldn't work from the automatic on the manual transmission. Mine bolted right up with no issues, everything was snug, so perhaps in different circumstances this isn't the case but I lucked out.
You will need the 4x4 shift lever bracket specific for the manual transmission as the one from the automatic is shaped different, and the shift linkage between that and the transfer case is significantly shorter.

I pulled the flywheel off the junkyard truck and kept the bolts, yes they are longer than the ones on the automatic, so don't just toss them to the side. There are also two bolts that go to the bell housing that are a lot longer on the manual transmission. One is behind the oil filter, and the other near the starter. None of the bolts from the automatic tranny were long enough to reach the threads, so I had to go back to the junkyard and find where I tossed them.

As for driveshafts. I found the perfect one from the exact cab/bed configuration as my truck with the same engine and manual transmission. The only problem is that the idiots driving the forklifts at the yard seem to damage them when they pick up the trucks to move them to the yard. My alternative was pulling a shaft from a newer gen dakota, extended cab short bed man. tran. and measured it. It is around 2" shorter than what I needed but it fits and doesn't have any dents. I've talked to a few local driveshaft shops and one told me around $200 to add the extra couple inches to the shaft, another said never weld in a section on a driveshaft, they said I needed to replace the whole length, and they also quoted me about $200. So my conclusion is DTA. lol.
Also, I had pulled a front 4x4 shaft from a single cab long bed manual trans truck, and it's still too long to fit my truck, which has me confused because I figured the front would fit as long as it was from a man. tran. 4x4. It's about 1/2" too long to bolt up, so probably an inch or two too long since you need play in the shaft.

All that aside, I'm really happy I made the swap. The truck accelerates a lot easier now, and is just a hell of a lot more fun to drive. I still have to finish getting the automatic shift lever out, and figuring out the wiring to get everything to work as intended, for now I just have a jumper wire in the connector for the park/neut safety switch so she'll start.
I was in a time crunch to get it in so I didn't take any pictures during the swap, but I'll try and get a few while I finish up the last of it over the next week or so.

Thanks for all the help as always!

Hello forum !! I am new here and i have a 1994 dakota slt 3.9, with the 5spd manual 4x2! I have nothing but trouble with the clutch release of some sort!!! If i push so hard to the floor , it sometimes releases and most time not !! I have replaced the slave, master cyl as a unit and bled it several times as Gary online says to do it!! Still no improvement!!! If i go to reverse first and it grinds there , then hurry to first, sometimes it goes in , most the time not!!! I have had to shut the truck off in traffic at a intercetion and put in to first and go!!!So tired of this, i really dont like this truck!! Has 159,680 miles , and was running great, till the last month or so(now it keeps shutting down on me at bad times) but thats another problem!!lol My question is does anyone think my shifting problem is the clutch, throw out , release arm or all the above?? I have bought a new clutch kit , havent had a chance to swap it !!! Thanks for any and all help!!!! bobrl!!!
