The plastic that hold my belt clip is shot breaking down fast. The driver side retractor is also shot. I can't find websites that provide clear info saying what they have is OE Dodge. How have you guys been dealing with this issue?

 

I've got a pair of long-enough replacement belts waiting for the interior redo; in the meanwhile, I'm just using the belts in the truck now.

Not an ideal answer, I know.

However, there are companies that if you measure the current belt will be glad to sell you a 3-point that fits fine.

Its called a junk yard.

 

Junkyards serve their purpose, but I personally won't trust my safety to whatever I pull out of a junker that's been exposed to the elements. Most Gen I's IF you can even find them in a junk yard, are basket cases, most often with open cabs...Not going to be pulling seat belt components out of those, especially the re-tractor which is what locks the belt in place. In this instance, I would go new everytime. That's just my personal opinion.

 

Thanks guys. I will talk to the dealer tomorrow as I can't imagine they made belts specific to a vehicle. I'm sure if I get the part number I will be able to find new ones. I mainly want the plastic that holds the buckle ends but I want to get properly working retractors so I don't have to reel it in every time I get out. I did see some on eBay for north of $225 no pics. Allegedly Mopar new but the adds have no pic & are worded so ambiguously who can tell? I think what I think of as the seat belt which means all of the working parts of it OE installed may be broken down into multiple parts and that is hindering my searches.

 

Heh. IIRC, when I measured, the factory belt was 110" ... so these should work fine:

$80 each - I'd replace both, and see what they had for the center belt, so as to keep the colors matched. Also, highly recommend considering just black, again because that way there's less chance of clashing with two awkward shades of, say, blue.

That pic looks like a 5 point of connection item Ralph. 1. retractor 2. Shoulder harness 3. 3 belt ends to connect to the floor.??????? I don't get what that middle bit is or why the tail on the webbing next to it or why the extra buckle next to it without the stiff plastic that would hold it as it poked through the seat.

 

Well, you've got the retractor, the shoulder loop, and the end which bolts at the same place as the retractor (confusion may be due to the plastic cover having the re-enforcement washer visible, and the mounting ear flopped out). That's two points. The buckle assembly is the third point. Look carefully at how the current belt is run; the free end bolts to the same bolt that holds the retractor in place.

If you ever take one off, you'll see what I mean.

OK I see it now I looked at the other photos there. What chapter is the seat belt stuff in? My FSM has a restraint section in the contents but it's all about the airbag?

 

For 1988, it's in section 23, Body.
