Default Weird issue

Hi all!

So here's the symptoms: The truck (1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9l 6 cylinder) starts fine, and drives fine. After about 1 minute of driving, it starts to lose power, then lurches a bit. I rev it and it smooths out, then it happens again and continues to happen until I get several popping sounds inside the engine, almost like backfires inside an exhaust. After that it usually runs fine, but sometimes it continues the cycle again.
I idled it in the driveway, and when the power loss started the engine started sucking in a HUGE amount of air. I have a cone air filter and you can hear the air being drawn in when it happens.
Initially I thought maybe O2 sensor. The exhaust was broken (in half) just before the cat until recently, and it still happened, so it can't be the downstream sensor. No ODB codes come up. Swapped all the plugs, still happens.
Any ideas? Also, there is a ticking sound, almost like a rapping lifter, that gets faster/louder when I accelerate, but only under load. If I am idling or coasting and I rev it, no ticking.
Any help would be appreciated!

Ticking sound is an exhaust manifold leak....that could also cause some of your other symptoms
