Heh. Actually, FTDI is a brand; hence my usage of that nomenlature. The counterfeit and clone cables are not always usable (most of them don't work in Win7 and above due to the FTDI drivers disabling the clone chips).

And *ahem* a "dongle" is something you plug in; for instance, a wireless keyboard receiver is a dongle; but a printer USB cable is not. (Has been using and selling dongles of various sorts since 1980 - it's a corruption of the word "dangle").

In any case, I'm a bit excited about being able to thwack on my ECU (one of them; I have two spares, one of which I KNOW is bad with a blown injector driver, one of which I don't know one way or the other; this gives me two I can play with while driving the truck!)

And this makes my plan to do a TBI / Magnum hybrid 3.9 even more feasible *grins*

I stand corrected. I misunderstood I have to go back and parse your post again. I messaged the Boost guy he answered "No, I have never done anything with the V6 or V8 ECUs." Found this http://www.minimopar.net/ecu/index.html Have not searched beyond this page and the 90-94 page which it seems is the same as the 88-89 page except for the addition of this line "Functionally, the 1990 through 1993 TBI SMECs are nearly the same and are therefore interchangeable. Internally however they did evolve over the years, particularly in the software." found this too http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Cables.htm

RockAuto lists different part numbers for my 1988, so I'm going to go with "Yep".

Ordered the FTDI cable today; also the SCI/FTDI mini-board for my 1988.

I'll be pulling the code as soon as both make it in (the FTDI brand cable is from England, so a few weeks.)

Here's where you can pick up the data sheet:

http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Docu...32R_CABLES.pdf

It pins out like the SCI end board; that's at

http://www.boostbutton.com/store/dat...cable-end.html

However, that's lazy - BoostButton also shows how to wire a standard FTDI type cable (and there's cheaper generics!) to the SCI connector; they also mention protecting the FTDI cable from the 12V used for flashing and that's done on the SCI card, so eh.

Coming from the UK it'll be a while. My first step is to pull the ROM code, and see what it looks like in MPTune. Also use MPScan and see what it looks like when running. I presume that'll be a bit informational *grins*

OK. I hope you'll be posting pic of how it connects etc. On the RWD/4x4 PCM differences. I wonder how different they might be since I was under the impression the gen 1 PCM's didn't have much to do with the tranny.

Pretty sure the PCM controls the lockup and overdrive solenoids in the Tranny valvebody. I'm going sans computer in mine and will use the PATC or equivalent pressure switches to control those solenoids.

Thanks Robertmee I had found a few Mopar Performance PCMs for 3.9 4x4's online and was hoping there was no real difference that would stop me from using it on my RWD. Today I couldn't find them in a web search. Note to self bookmark anything you find that you may want in future!
