Exclamation 1st Gen headers?

I can't find any headers for my 1993 Dakota. I really would like some long tubes or anything. I've had 2 speed shops and oreilly look and no luck. Anyone else run into this? Does anyone know of headers that fit?

Hmm, they're out there, try this part no from Jeg's -
JBA 1940S-1JT, and here's a lower priced set from JC Whitney - 91940FLT.

They may be trying to find 5.9 headers for a '93 Dakota, but since that combo never existed they don't find anything. Have them check for headers for a 5.2L instead. They're the same fit.

Here's a link to Robertmee's thread, and a little issue he ran into with the headers he is putting on his '90 Dakota with a 5.9:

Uh... There's a dozen choices for magnum headers. And let me be the first to tell you (don't know why no one else has said it) if you put shorty headers on your truck and buy then new you are wasting your money and will gain nothing outside of placebo effect.

If you can find em used and can accept the fact you'll gain nothing but a small change in exhaust note, go for it.

If not, not worth the money.

Incidentally, the 92-93 Magnum exhaust manifolds flow better than later years. They had larger exits. If you have a set in that year range, you might consider keeping them, or if you go with headers, at least don't toss them. You may want them later, or you could sell them.

Since mine was mentioned I'll only add that I went with stainless shorties purely for asthetics...in my brief looking there wasn't any proven set of long tubes that would fit....the frame rails are too close for long tubes to hang and the mid motor mounts are in the way. If you fabbed up front ear mounts maybe. I have a set of Hedman long tubes for a 5.9 and it wasn't even close to fitting. I have a mid level 380hp build so I'm not sweating the loss of 15 hp....have no intentions of running a vert down the track

Lots of good advise given in this post. I would be inclined to agree with Toby on the benefits of using shortys. My (hot rodding) experience has mainly been with C4 corvettes, and I can tell you that shorties make zero difference, both track and dyno's on a 93 corvette. I would expect about the same on a dodge magnum motor, especially if you already have the larger 92-93 manifolds.
The only Long tube header I have found for a 1st gen dakota are these
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/h...e/model/dakota
And I have no idea how well they fit, or what it would take to make them fit.

I am as well building a 5.9L magnum engine. After spending countless hours searching for a fairly price headers and hoping to find long tube headers, I manage to find some. Though be warned, these are like the only ones compatible for the first generation dodge dakotas. Most are only short tube headers or mid tube headers. Honestly there is no point in buying these because they do little in performance gain compared to the 92 dodge dakotas manifold.
So that leaves you with long tube headers. NOW THATS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM. Almost all long tube headers are going to be manipulated in some way to fit these first gen dakota. Honestly if you are spending money, you don't really want to customize a new part because you won't be able to return them.

But you guys are in luck. Hooker headers make a long tube headers for a 89-91 dodge dakota for the v8. As far as my research goes, these headers should be able to fit our 92-96 dakota! Likewise these are fairly priced if you research a little bit.

Here are some links for you.

Also good luck on your 5.9L magnum builds, please make a thread and show us some pictures of your build. Also curious if you could make a post on how you are going to run the ignition and fuel system with a hotrodded 5.9L

In regards,

Taylor
