Sounds like your truck has an A500 (42rh) in it, and the one you scavenged has an A518 (46rh). You're in better shape, as the A518 is beefier. Don't freak out...
You'll just need to use the torque converter for the A518, but everything should bolt up just fine. The only thing, and I think it was mentioned earlier, is make sure the weights are correct and the flex plate is correct for your application. I'm assuming you have a 3.9L? Do you know if the transmission you pulled came from a 5.2 or 5.9L? If 5.2, then both it and the 3.9L are internally balanced and the flexplate, torque converter are swappable. If 5.9L then you'd need a new flexplate without the weights, assuming the torque converter has no weights on it.
Lots of good info here for identifying what you have: http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparf...mission.17287/

oh. if youre running the 90 fuel system (I thought you were putting a newer Magnum setup in there?) then it wont even use the windows in the flexplate. You can run one out of an older carbd vehicle then
starting in 96 they switched the weights on the 360s from the converter to the flexplate but up until then they were on the converter. also that year they started using a 90* pattern, meaning no more having 1 offset hole to bolt the flexplate to the converter. The converters on these are stamped 90* and can be used in older models if you use the flexplate from the donor.

Where located? If I hadn't of just recently bought a 96 4WD a few weeks ago I would if it were nearby. Trans issues don't bother me since I can overhaul them myself, typically for the same cost or sometimes cheaper than going to the junkyard.
And yes a 518 will go right in where a 500 came out of, been there done that.

To the OP....During your install, you need to make sure you pay attention to the weights on either the converter or flex plate. Your 3.9L (If that's what you have...you've never confirmed) doesn't need them, and if you pulled that A518 off a 5.9L RAM then the converter may have weights. If it's a A518 off a 5.2L Dak/Ram then the converter shouldn't have any weights. If you have to use the 3.9L Flexplate, then only 3 of the 4 holes may line up to the A518 converter. It's not uncommon to have to elongate one hole. It's been a couple of years since I went through this on my truck and my memory is fuzzy at my age, so double check what I've said with volaredon or do some independent google on the subject.
