Transfer Case

You can get a new chain and a rebuild kit, (seals and bearings, etc) for less then $200.00
FWIW I would tear it down and not drive it until you fix it. Dont know what the difference is, but the 93 seems to use a unique transfer case for that 1 year only.
So if you let it go too long, finding a used one may be difficult

It seems that different year first gen dakotas have different transfer cases. It's pretty hard to give exact specs for your year. I had a thread on my 96 you can read here (https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...-clunking.html). From my experience, if you are just slightly mechanically inclined, you can rebuild the tcase in these trucks. Just do your research before ordering parts. A bit of research and know-how can save you a ton of $$$.

If I'm right you would be able to use a different year as long as you got the rear yoke with it. These transfer cases are fairly easy to rebuild though.
