'98 5.2 swap into my '95
Hello everyone. I have a '95 with the 3.9l and 4wd and I recently picked up a 5.2 Magnum from a '98 Ram. I was wondering about the wiring harness and the PCM. So for the PCM, will I have to find a PCM that came only from a 98 Ram, or can I find a PCM that came out of any 5.2? For the wiring harness, I've heard of people using their existing wiring harness and adding extra wiring for the extra 2 injectors. Can someone explain how that's done. Also, can I keep my stock V6 flywheel or will I have to upgrade? Thanks in advance

I "think" the easiest way to do this, is to get a computer for a 5.2 from a earlier truck, 92-95.
Then you can use your orig. truck harness and add 2 injector plugs.
Also, you will need a 5.2 flywheel. It has the 8 notches vs the 6 notch v6 flywheel.
IMO the person on this forum you need to contact is ragged 89.

I second 93ragtop.
Also, a lot of what you're asking can be figured out by perusing the Factory Service Manual; it'll cover the extra two wires (not directly, but by comparing what you have for cylinders 1-6 and what it shows additional for 7 and 8, it should be easy enough to figure out). Also you'll want a V8 fan shroud, so you can replace the serp belt without having to reach so far around into the shroud.
The 5.2 was a factory option for the 1995; all parts needed can be sourced from 1995 trucks (also 1994; a lot of them from 92 and 93 trucks.)
If you want to go big ike, look for a 1992/1993 exhaust manifold set and a Y pipe from a 1992/1993 Dakota.
You may need to pick up the Dakota oil pan, to go with the flywheel that, as 93ragtop points out, needs to be changed to get the proper tone ring. (Also the V8 flywheels support a larger clutch for better clamping with the higher torque. *dry* This may be of interest to avoid an early burn out of the clutch assembly. */dry*

That said, one factor might affect your computer choice, and that is the EGR system. I don't believe the '98 you found will have an EGR valve on the rear of the manifold, but your '95 might. I can't remember exactly what year EGR dissappeared ('94?), but if your '98 doesn't have it, you can simplify things if you find a computer from a none-EGR truck. Just easier to do that way.
