I was referring to the truck only gets 13 mpg on the highway. It was a Dana 70 with a 3.55 posi.
wow.... something IS wrong with that truck... my 90 with a 3.9 2wd long bed, 3.55 rear end got 16 in town and 20 on the road like clockwork.... or you drive it like a Bat outta He11....
It won't get very good at 30MPH; what I'd do to maximize it while towing would be to get stiffer rear gears in (for instance, if it's a 3.55 now, try a 4.10 or so). That should put it better into the power band.
But gas mileage will suck on these trucks when you're doing much off of 55MPH.

Defind "these trucks" you mean all first gens, or pre magnum? Because my v8 gets its best mileage at 70mph... And as you know but he doesn't, my truck gas a good bit extra weight added, and is 4x4... And I still have the trash box for a transmission...
It has 10 Bolts holding the cover on. Just went and looked and compared it to a Dana on google , they don't match. So I had to have misread the build sheet and whoever told the previous owner it had a Dana didn't know what they where talking about.
