Steering Rack Cross member Hole
So, my steering rack on the passenger side was loose. No amount of tightening would change it. Thought maybe the bushings were bad so put some new ones in. What I found was that the tapped hole in the cross member appears to be some kind of insert and it has broken free. The welded nut is still on the backside, but this broken free tapped hole just kind of floats in the cross member.
What are my options? Only thing I can think of is to cut off the welded nut, and go back with a welded washer/nut combo bigger than the floating hole. Any other thoughts?

Well, I took the rack off, and was able to weld it both front and back. Torqued it back down to 150 ft/lbs and it held fine. So, tomorrow, I'll take it for a drive and put it back up on the rack to make sure it stays tight...then off to alignment.
Of course, when rolling, you can find the curbs and pot holes ...

Nope...I owned a 63 300 convertible...the pace car for the indy 500 that year. So been there done that. When we were looking for my wife a new car we drove it to the chrysler dealership...the owner has one of the largest classic car collections in NC and had to have it...offered me twice what it was worth towards a new car so off it went. It was a land boat...had the 413 Cid and was 22.5 feet long. Push button shifting on the dash. Fun car but only 1800 vert made and it was difficult finding parts. The emblem in the grill a guy in Australia was reproducing for $400. Luckily mine was in tact.
