94 dodge Dakota starting and running problems
Okay I messed with the truck more Tonight and the grounds going to the power steering pump bolt someone just crammed under the bolt and tightened it down so I removed that and fixed it right with some actual terminals. Started truck seemed to do okay for awhile and then it started to act up again. After awhile of fighting with it I checked for codes again. It gave me a code 42 now after all this time.
ASD relay issues. Might be related to your problem, might not.... could try just swapping the relay with another one, and see if anything improves.
Tried swapping the relays and nothing worked. Two things happened when I went through the test. Step 5 tested positive for suspect a computer problem. And step 6 did not show 12 volts where it needed to so I put in a manual relay switch I have as it said to do first and by doing that I got 12 volts as I should so I left that in and tried to start truck. Truck did same thing with my Manual relay still in. So it looks to me as if I'm testing positive for a PCM problem.
Okay I decided to check for supply voltage to the coil again and here is what I found. First of all my power wire on my coil shows continuity between all pins on the asd Relay port is that normal? Key on or off no difference
Depends..I'm going from memory on my 90 but the ASD relay has 4 pins. One pin is from the ecm and is the ground side of the ASD relay coil...in other words to activate the relay the ecm provides a ground. Directly across from this pin is 12vdc...it will likely be spliced to the same 12vdc from the ignition circuit that goes to your ignition coil. 90 degrees to this pin is the 12vdc supply to the fuel pump that goes through the contacts of the asd relay. Then opposite of that is the wire that goes to the fuel pump and gets 12vdc through the relay contact when the relay is energized. So with the relay off two of the four would test for continuity to the ignition coil 12vdc. The ground side would also test for continuity because you would only be reading rhe small resistance through the relay coil. With the relay on then yes you would have continuity on all four. The ASD relay is for the fuel pump only though....I thought your problem was a weak spark? In any case continuity doesn't tell you much here...it's better to use a test light or meter and measure where you have voltage with respect to ground. Continuity tests are fine for finding shorts or good grounds. With the ignition on measure with a meter the voltage at the coil with respect to ground. You should have greater than 12vdc. If you do and you have weak spark at the coil then bad coil.

My problem is a weak spark or none at all. But the Truck threw a code for asd Relay and I also checked at the coil again right now bc the truck won't start and I'm showing no voltage no matter what at the green orange stripe wire when I go to start the truck. Also the same wire on the coil shows continuity between all asd Relay terminals. Becoming a little confused as to what the truck is doing
