heater problem
To fix the thermostat you would go about running down to the local parts store and buy an thermostat they range from 4 dollars to 14 dollars. From there I have not a ****ting clue, so if anyone has a walkthru for replacing the thermostat that would be awesome because I have to replace mine I think.
First of all, did your blower quit or does it just blow cold. If it just blows cold, let the truck warn up to normal operating temperature, feel the two heater hoses that go into the firewall, if one is cold then you have a block somewhere. The block could be the thermostat though. If it is original than it is probably stuck shut. Or the coolent level is low and you dont realize it because it is cold outside.
For replacement, buy a thermostat (180 degree works great) thermostat gasket, and a small tube of rtv silicone gasket maker. Locate you upper radiator hose and follow it down to where it meets the intake manifold, There is a black flange that the hose connects to. The thermostat is under the flange. There are two 9/16 bolts I think that hold it on. When you take it loose coolent will run everywhere so you may want to drain the system first. Clean up the surfaces up the manifold and the flange. The new thermostat sits inside of a chamfered ring in the manifold. Apply a LITTLE rtv abound the sealing surface of the manifold, then put the gasket in place. Put a little more rtv on the sealing surface of the flange and bolt the flange down. Do not overtighten the bolts, it is only going into aluminum and it will strip out. USe caution when applying rtv because if you use too much it will clog up the thermostst and you will be back at square one. Put you radiator hose back on and fill up the radiator. WHen you have everything done start the truck with the radiator cap off, let the truck warm up and when the it gets to 180 degrees or whatever thermostst you buy, the thermostat will open allowing coolant to flow. When this happens the level in the radiator will go down and you will need to add more coolant. This process prevents air pockets from forming.
If you blowe just doesnt blow, theck the main fuses under the dash, then check the fuses under the hood on the left fender well. If everything is ok then check the connetion to the blower motor resistor, it is mounted in the firewall on the passenger side of the truck. There is a plug going to it with five wires. Be careful it may be very hot and it may crumble in your hand. If the plug is ok pull the resistor out and see if it is corroded or broken. If so replace it, it BR 85 at NAPA, 10 bucks. If none of this works, check the connection to the back of the heater control in the dash. And if none of that works smell around the blowere moter itself to see if it smells like it burnt up, look under the glovebox, there are two wires that go to a plug, they are black and green. Those supply power to the motor and you can test it from there too.

if the engine temp is running low then the thermostat is stuck open and has to be replaced.
if the engine temp is high then it is stuck closed and the thermostat has to be replaced.
if the engine temp is normal but the fan does not come on check the resistor on the firewall ( upper left hand side ) best way to check it is get one from a junk yard for 5 bucks, plug it in and turn on the fan.
if it quit slowly then the heater core needs to be reverse flushed to remove the junk. to do that you can buy a kit with all the directions for a couple of bucks. Crazy can probably tell you where to pick up one.
