It will probably bolt up, but, dodge never put the ax15 or nv2500 behind a v8 engine.
All 93 and earlier V8 dakota's were automatics. The 5 speed was not available with a V8
94 was the first year a V8 5 speed was available and they were all NV3500.

For ease of bolting in, and cost, IMO you would be better off finding another NV3500.
FWIW, I think it was around 97? the NV3500 was redesigned to be quieter and smoother....
You can use the newer version, (ragged89 did) but make sure it has the bosses on the side to mount your transfer case shifter.

If you get that v6 5 speed, send me the bellhousing from it (you got one on the V8 that should go right onto it) or send me the one off the junk V8 trans. it should be a seperable one as well....

The factory trans on a 95 v8 5speed dakota would be a NV3500 and the bell housing is one piece with the transmission.

Take 93 RT's advice, there really is no "cheap" alternative for your 4wd Dakota. You could use the AX-15, but it was not intended for use behind V8's. The NV3500 is a good 5 speed, just be sure to run the right lubricant in it. It has bronze synchronizers that can be damaged if you don't use a lube recommended for that transmission. Here's some good info on the NV3500:

One other thing to keep in mind, the dakota and ram versions are different. The shifter location is the problem......
