So I bought a 1993 Dodge Dakota 4x4 LE 5.2 L magnum took it to my mechanic and had it tuned up. Recently when I’m driving on the freeway The RPMs start to surge when I reach 60 mph. It goes from 2000 rpms to 3000 rpms then drops down again with no obvious reason. I can feel a pull when this happens. I am going to take it back to my mechanic but I also wanted to know if anyone had this issue? Also side note this truck has very low miles for its age 76,000.
Thank you to anyone
who is kind enough to respond to this I know you folk probably get a ton of these posts.
Indeed. Do you have a scanner that can read live data? Would be interesting to know if this is something the PCM is doing, or if it is a fault somewhere else.

Hey you just gave me an idea! I replace the ECU with a new one ! Maybe the other electronic components also went bad it has been sitting for long time without running.
I agree with the slipping in and out of overdrive. Possibly the button or wires have a short in them somewhere causing it to switch between 3rd and o/d? Or something internal in the trans? Pressure too low when the shift solenoid triggers? Im not too familiar with these trans yet. Been working on 4l60es and some import manual transmissions. Closes I got to one of these trans was in a 97 1500 and I had to adjust the bands on it. Which sucked btw

everything about that transmission the same as this truck except the 97 would have an extra solenoid the 93 won't, bands and such identical between the 2 years.
