Default Automatic transmission question

Hello-
I have a '93 Dakota, 5.2 V-8, 4WD, extended cab. It's got a 4 spd automatic transmision w/ overdrive (which went out several years ago).
I want to replace the transmission- can you tell me what the model of this transmission is so I can find a replacement?

Thanks!

For a 93, it's either a 42RH or a 46RH; I'd bet a 46RH, but am not positive.

If you pull it and check the stamping on the bell housing, it can be crossed to exactly which one it is.

You'll need the 4WD version to keep the OD tailshaft the proper length to fit the transfer case.

I Just had mine replaced and I own a 1993 5.2 V8 4WD extended cab. 47RE was the replacement. I hope this helps!

NOT for a 1993; those are all RH's.

The REs weren't used in Dakotas until 1996, when the JTEC replaced the SBEC and OBDII came available.

47RE goes with the 4.7, not the Magnum blocks.

47R? trans was found behind the cummins, and the V-10. It was NEVER behind the 3.9, 5.2, or 5.9. It won't even bolt up.

Huh. Thought the V10 was the LA/Magnum bell housing pattern; leastwise, that's the scattershield pattern offered (fits V10, 5.9, 5.2 notes).

Nope. The shield may be the same, but, that's only four bolts. V10 and cummins share the same pattern.

Thumbs up

I think everyone can see why I'm confused! I don't have access to the truck right now but when I do I'll climb under and get some numbers.

Thanks for the replies!

If you're near CT I'll have one out of a '95 in a few weeks (don't know what kind) and you can have it... bring a six pack of beer and I'll help you load it up. Got a video of the trans shifting through all gears. No guarantee on how long it will continue to...but I felt no sign of issues.
