I know these tanks are plastic, but don't most junk yards puncture the tanks to drain the gas?

They do in my area (Virginia). I found my 22 gal. tank by finding someone parting out a Dakota on Craigslist. It would have been much easier to get it from the Pick-n-Pull, but again, they puncture them before putting them on the lot.

I had a member sell me a tank. To my surprise, he was able to wash it, wrap it in bubble wrap, and then ship it to me. (USPS) Im in northern Va and the u-pull style junkyards all seem to puncture, so its either have the junkyard pull it, find a member, or something like craigslist.
FWIW I cant imagine why they ever put a 15 gal tank on these trucks. Heck, I would like to have something bigger then 22!!

Weird I never thought about it but when I got my used fuel pump they pulled it from a tank in their shop that they had just dropped from a truck and it stll had gas in it. They were going to pump the gas out and sell the tank.
That link is valid those are junk yards and disassemblers if you fill out the form it will give you the closest places to you and if I remember right when I was looking for a fender you can get teh phone numbers for each of those places and call to speak directly with the sellers.

I would agree with that...... But I believe the key difference is, if the parts are pulled by the junkyard, or only accessible to junkyard employees.... In other words they are not leaving the tank where someone could pour the gas on the ground.
Also, at least in my area, first gens are not as plentiful as second gens.
