Default Staying in four wheel drive

Hey everyone. I'm having issues with my 4x4 on my 96 dakota v6. I'll shift into 4H and everything seems okay, feels like its engaged and the light comes on. When I let go of the shifter, it pops back into 2 wheel drive on its own a few seconds after I let go. I can physically hold it in 4H and everything is fine. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Make sure the shift linkage isn't sloppy, and is adjusted properly.
