15" Wheels
My 92 Dakota originally came with 235/75/15 tires and wheels, so I thought I could buy some used 15 inch 5 spoke Dakota wheels and just swap them on.
No dice. The wheels fit but when I tried to move the truck the inside of the rim dug into the bolt for my brake line and spun it loose causing me to lose my brakes. Fortunately I was still in my driveway and was able to pull into the garage to jack the truck up. That is when I found the problems.
Is there a difference between first and second generation 15" wheels or do I have other issues? If I could find a 1/4 or 3/8" spacer they will fit. Or a thinner brake line block. Otherwise I have to go back to the 16" wheels that were on it.

Well, 2nd gen Dakota were all 6 lug; what year Dakota wheels DID you try?
There's several FWD Dodges that have the same bolt pattern but a bad offset for a Dakota; maybe it was one of them instead, which would put the rim too far inwards?

and OP... how can the rim unscrew the line from the caliper? I see it rubbing the bolt head raw (maybe) that is even doubtful. I see people putting newer (97 up) rims on 96-older Dakotas, cant say I have ever heard of anyone doing the opposite... or even asking about fitment going that direction... all I know is that if 15" tires get any harder to find, I will be looking for 16" rims, like what my Durango has/ for my 92 and for my 96.
Volaredon - Nolo contendre.
I saw "92" and thought "5 lug" ...
I will say my tires awaiting going onto the truck came from Amazon, P235/75R15XL .

The brakes were nice and tight before, so that seems to me to be cause and effect.
As to the wheels, I know they came off of a newer Dakota. Rounded fenders and softer lines. Whether it was before or after 2000 I don't know.
Again, newer wheels (97-06 undetermined as to which) onto a 92 LE 4WD.
I saw a second generation today with 15" wheels that looked exactly like mine. I couldn't determine the offset, but am not sure there was any difference.
Will try to send pictures tomorrow.

I’ve got a 95 that has the orginal pizza cutter, but I bought 235/75/15 pre mounted on next body style 5 spoke rims. No probs at all. Then I added 2” spacers and went up to 31’s so I can assure you that would likely fix the problem. It’s got 4” + stickin proud of the body now so it is a little aggressive compared to before. No issues though.

want work my 96 dakota has 6 lug 4.5 center bolt pattern. i tried 16 inch durango wheels on my 96 the hub on the front is 2 3/4 inches wide the hole on the durango wheel is only 2/1/2 inches wide. would not go over the hub on my 96 dakota sport extended cab. i wasted $107 trying it. going back to my original 15 inch wheels.
That's weird as I swapped wheels between my 96dakota and my 01 Durango as I tried the taller tires from the Durango on the Dakota before deciding on replacement tire size on the Dakota. Ran em that way about a week before I bought my new tires. Granted the Dakota wheels looked more weird on the Durango than the other way around. Both sets of wheels fit the opposite vehicle just fine I have no idea what year vehicle you were talking about.
I went back and re read your original post. I've had a couple of 92 Dakotas and both had 15" wheels. Stock. Is yours somehow modified with different brakes than stock?

As far as I know it isn't. I didn't buy it new. but when I had the radiator replaced 6 years ago the radiator that it called for would not fit. As we found out later on the truck was ordered with heavy duty radiator from the factory. as far as the suspension the shocks were heavy duty also. so i don't know about the wheels. the hub is the problem its 3.5 inches wide to where the hole in the back of the 2003 wheels are only 2.5 inches wide so its not going to fit. i've tried mounting the wheels myself don't work. a younger friend of mine tried it also the center hub is to big. i absolutely love the 2003/04 6 spoke wheel just wish it had worked. right now i have 2001 dakota 16 inch by 7 inch steel wheels on it. 16 inch tires are easy to find than 15 inch. as far as it been modified your guess is good as mine. I do know the truck was made in canada and bought new in michigan. how it got to north carolina is a mystery. a mechanic in winston salem, nc had the truck. it had 310,000 miles on it when I bought it 6 years ago. it doesn't smoke and has plenty of pep. runs great. i'm 76 and don't much care for the 5 speed because of constantly changing gears but i've learned to accept it.
