There is a bolt halfway down and one where it meets the rack. This should take it loose.
Cant you take it out the bottom?

I was able to take out the starter by taking out the middle bolt on the steering column staft and bending it a bit to slide it to one side, I have a feeling I messed something up. I didnt use the bolt at the bottom of the steering shaft (was that the bolt you punch out). The manual says you can take it out thru the bottom but the exhaust pipes and heat shield is in the way

I dunno man, I took mine out through the bottom with the exhaust and everything still bolted up. It should pass between a bracket ang the tranny bellhousing.

I did mine and was able to take it out the bottom as well. I have the 5.2, but it's the same setup.
