Default When it Rains - Transmission Problem

Got up to go to work this morning & the truck ('95 V6,2WD,Automatic)wouldn't start.
Moved the lever to Neutral & it started.
Stopped & put it into park,& it creeped backwards.Got home,& went to back into
our driveway - no reverse.I ended up hitting a shrub in the neighbor's yard across the
street.Tried & tried,& still couldn't get reverse.Could this be a shifter problem (can't get-
it into park either)?
I was supposed to drive it to the Moss Motors British car meet on Friday (both MG's-
are still down),& not sure what I'll do.
Ideas/suggestions?

I'd sure check the bushings in the shift linkage first.

Good news! The Factory Service Manual is available on a download here. Page 21-127 has a diagram showing where the bushings are; also, the exploded parts diagram in the parts list, page 641 is a much better view and shows the Chrysler part numbers for the bushings. On that diagram, I'd bet call out 6 or 8 has come apart, letting the rod slip out.

More Good News! Dorman has the bushing, albeit in a set with several others usually. Dorman HELP! 14041 .

There's a lot to be said for boring.
