i owed the truck for about a month, and it worked awsome for about 2 weeks then i pulled out my parents 94 GMC 3/4 truck with the dakota then after that it hasnt been working good, it still works sometimes
Wait a sec. If I remember corectly LSD was not offered until 1997. If your lucky, sometimes both wheels will spin, but not likely. The right rear drives the truck for the most part. Get a 97 up, it will have a tag on the cover with LSD stamped in it, buy new spring and shock perches, weld them on, and your ready to go. All the brake parts interchange.
Well your lucky my friend. I would say the clutches may be worn out then. If this is so. you wouldnt necessarily see metal shavings or anything. They arent really a metallic material.
Is there a tag on the rear axle itself by any chance?

Well I know many things about Dakotas, but rear axles are no specialty of mine. I know yo have to pull the axles out, probably c-clips, or the backing plates hold them in. I don't remember. When you take it apart though everything has to be properly shimmed before it is put back together. This job is really for someone who knows what they are doing. Besides you don't want to spend $ on parts and have it not work.
I guess i'll just look for another one from a wrecker, what years did they start using the limited slip diffs on the 1st gen dakotas? what did they usually come with the 4 cyl, V6 or V8?
