Today I Learned (TIL)
TIL - there is a rear disc brake conversion made that fits our trucks with the 8.25" rear end.
EDIT: 5 lug pattern; you'll want custom rotors for 6 lug, or convert to 5 lug. (ABS should be OK on our trucks, since it's driven off a sensor on the diff, not at the wheel.)

It is only for 5 lug not the OE 6 lug.
edit- one review says it does not work with the ABS cool set though if you have the extra 5lug rims. A lot cheaper than the SSBS unit which was $700+

EDIT: Should still work with our ABS which is off the diff; the Jeeps use ABS at the wheel, so it's different there.
I'll fix it to say that.

5 lug 1987-1990, 6 lug 1991-1996.
First years (through 1989, maybe 1990) no ABS either. Then RWAL standard, 4WAL optional.
There are quite a few differences between a 1987 4-banger and a 1996 5.2 to where it's almost not even the same truck for anything but basic sheet metal and dash.
But it can be swapped around; that's what makes it so wonderful when boneyard cruising!
