Default Facepalms.

I know that some of you probably feel like this about me at times:

But.

I discovered the buzzing at the front of the motor at idle.

For 1988 (and most of the LAs I bet!) there's a bracket that bolts to the passenger head to hold the back of the alternator. There's also a brace that goes from there to the front alternator / compressor bracket.

I had one of three bolts (!!!) on the back bracket, and no brace. Haven't ever HAD the brace as far as I know ...

Found the brace on a 1990 Dak in the boneyard (and all the hard vacuum lines, in great shape! 'Nuther story about why I ought to do all my own work on my truck ...) and replaced the missing bolt(s) (grabbed the one that held the brace also while grabbing the brace) (Note: 3/8-16 x 1" flange head bolts did fine for the back brace) and tightened up the one bolt I had earlier.

No buzzing!!!

And the pulley is now parallel, not bending towards the fan as I tighten up the belts (wasn't much, but you could see it.)

I feel much better now.

Ralph, I did something similar..... I have a 93 corvette, and about 15-20 years ago, I swapped heads, and added headers. There was a brace that went from the ac compressor to the exhaust manifold. I left it off..... Afterwards, I had a vibration when the AC was on. Long story short, took about a year for me to figure that one out. As we both know, them braces are on there for a reason!!

In my defense, that brace was missing when I obtained the truck; but it makes good sense to me where it fits.

Pull the alternator and you can even reach its bolts. So I did my bolt installs with the alternator sitting over by the radiator on top of the evap canister.

I have to do the vacuum lines yet; it was getting too dark last night.

But at least it doesn't buzz and rattle anymore.

Yay!

So I had the rear lights off last summer to clean up the paint and do the bumper.
Then I ran out of gas the other day and noticed when I got back to the truck that the right side flasher was flashing the reverse light.
Today I was going to replace what I thought was a bad bulb and found out that I had put the reverse light into the backup/brake light slot and the reverse light into the brake spot. Who knew they would both fit in either slot? Not me.

There's actually logic behind that.

They use the same basic molding for both sockets; so both have identical ears on the mounting side.
