Default Transfer case swap

Can someone tell me if a 231 D t-case from a '96 Dakota will work in a '93 Dakota that also has a 231D? If so, how do I overcome the speedometer issue? Thanks!

Should bolt right in. I *think* you can just take the cable adapter out of your current t-case, and install it in the 'new' one. On the 96, there is still a gear on the output shaft, and one on the VSS, the gear just drives the VSS instead of a cable.

Thanks for the info on the speedometer issue, problem solved. Now I have another problem. The transfer case input shaft is shorter on the 96 than the 93, as a result, does not form a seal on the transmission output shaft. Is the 93 transfer case exclusive for that year?

If they are both 231 cases, may need to swap some parts around.....
