94 Dakota 2wd Shifter cable
My gear shifter moves with no resistance (gear selection). I can change gears from under the truck. I can't find where the shifter cable comes through the fire wall and up to the column shifter. I have the shrouds off the steering column but cannot see the shifter cable. Please provide advise or link to some good pictures and/or instruction video. Thanks, Charles
Skip this question. I found the problem. There is no shifter cable. Part of the linkage underneath came out of a retainer.

There IS no shifter cable on the 1st Gen, it's a linkage.
See, for instance, the attached page in the parts list (I downloaded from the link in the FAQ).
I will bet the nylon bushings have failed with age, and it's come apart.
You didn't specify 42RH/46RH (V6/V8), but this part is the same for both.
Call outs 1 and 6 were still available from the dealership as of August 2020; call out 8 isn't, but there's a usable part in the HELP! product line. (No, I don't remember the part number, wish I had noted it! But it's the assortment with the castellated nylon bushing in it.)
