Default 95 Dakota - Hood Latch Handle Broken Off Cable

Hello,

While trying to open my hood to check the oil, the round metal head on the hood latch broke-off from the cable. There are the remains of the cable still visible, but I have to use needle-nose pliers
on the cable end to open the hood now. This is a really hokey setup and I'm sure I'm going to break the cable off at some point.

Has anyone had this problem? It doesn't look like there's any hood latch assemblies available unfortunately and I'm a bit afraid that going used will result in the same problem.

Any one found a solution for this? The cable is inside a wire and it's not very easy to access.

Latch not attached to cable anymore

Isn't it very similar to a brake cable for a bicycle/motorcycle?

Yea I was thinking about getting some stainless steel wire and putting some bike type cable ends on it.

Think I would just go to a motorcycle shop, and see if you can match something up.
