Default NV3500 from 4x4 to 4x2

Hello, would like to do a swap to manual, I’m in early stages of collecting parts (and still learning about my first Dakota), and found a NV3500 from a 4x4, I’m still trying to get more details from the owner on donor truck, but thought I’d be preemptive and at least see if it’s compatible. Question would be Can I just take the transfer case off and re bolt the tail piece back on?. I read it’s 7” short than the auto, so I’ll have to get the rear drive shaft from another manual 2wd. Possible gear ratios are different?. In a best case senario is get the whole donor truck but don’t have room not to mention seems like a good deal for the tranny. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Real possibility the output shaft is different between 2 and 4 wheel drive.... which would mean complete disassembly of the trans to swap it out. Don't know if you could then just bolt the appropriate extension housing on there. If you have a 2wd truck, you would be much better off finding a trans from a 2wd.

Ok good point, too bad be a good transmission as has low Kms. Are the transmissions tagged as different part numbers from a 4wd to 2wd?.
