Default Multiple engine wiring harnesses clips not connected

I'm really needing to know what these connectors go to in the engine compartment I will take some pictures and tell exactly where the harness is located 1996 Dakota 2.5

Passenger side firewall underneath clip

Passenger side firewall next to vacuum underneath clip

Passenger side underneath the top wiring harness under directly underneath the vacuum lines

Right next to the throttle cable hooked up to the same wiring harness as this sensor in this picture

Underneath the last wiring harness down by the ignition coil on the firewall next to the vacuum lines
Please help me

The first two show the DLC (aka "OBD1") connector.

For the others, I don't know off hand; maybe hunt up the wires by color in the wiring diagrams in the FSM (downloadable from a link in the FAQ message - go about 40% down, grab the 1996 FSM, and while you're at it, grab the parts lists for all years)?

I'll bet it's for an option you don't have.

ODB1 only connects to a DLC capable reader; since you've got ODBII on a 1996, I'd use an OBDII scanner on the OBDII port under the dash inside.

The Factory Service Manual (FSM) for a 1996 can be downloaded from a link in the FAQ message at the top of the message list.

I think the one clip is the engine coolant sensor to the gauge it has a solid black a solid green a blue with the pink stripe and a brown with a pink stripe I think there's one that's a wheel sensor clip that has a gray and white wire and a solid gray wire

The gauge sending unit for engine coolant temperature is a single pin sending unit; if it's got more than one wire, that ain't it.

The wheel sensor, for if you have 4 wheel anti-lock brakes, (4WAL), is a black connector with two wires, a white and a white/dark blue wire on the passenger side. Driver's side the wires are red and red/grey.

That other one MAY be the cruise control servo connector; only connected if you have cruise control.

Its wires are black, dark blue with a red tracer, light green with a red tracer, and tan with a red tracer.

BTW: This comes from the connector information in the 1998 FSM I downloaded from the link in the FAQ message.

okay that one is cruise control the one with the red tracer I do believe that other one is the four wheel anti-lock brakes where would that one be plugged to cuz the brake light red brake light stays on and the ABS light stays on constantly I have another question my speedometer bounces all over the place until about 20 minutes of driving then it gets right would that be the sensor on the rear of the transmission and how do I find out if my Dakota has had the recall or not for the ignition switch harness

May I suggest you learn how to use periods?

Use punctuation to signify the end of a thought and the start of another.

It's hard to read a stream of conciousness like that.

Or as I've said -

BREATHE.

Now. Do you HAVE 4 wheel antilock brakes?

The control head is over by the master cylinder; the wheel sensor is a 2 wire sensor, not a 3 wire.

And since the rear ABS sensor helps feed the ECU to drive the speedometer, I'd be replacing that first if I were firing a parts cannon.

Have you considered asking the ABS what it thinks is happening? There's full instructions in the factory service manual downloadable from the link over in the FAQ message (at the top of this subforum's message list).

I'd do that before being overly worried about unplugged connectors; a 2.5 won't have several options (they weren't available for the 2.5!) so you can easily have connectors free.

Shucks, I didn't check, but that connector low may go to the transfer case, or to an automatic transmission if you have the 5 speed manual (or to a manual if you have the automatic).

96 should still have the VSS on the tailshaft housing of the trans, or transfer case. (depending on whether 2, or 4 wheel drive.)

Oh, it's got the VSS on the tailshaft housing; and being a 2.5 it's pretty safe to presume 2WD for Dave37.

And there's other possible causes, like a bad VSS.

My memory was bad earlier; no, the ABS sensor doesn't feed the ECU and then the speedometer, speedometer is fed straight off the VSS but that signal also feeds the ECU.

So instead of tackling the ABS sensor first, I'd tackle the VSS.

For Dave37 - The most expensive VSS that RockAuto has is $23 right now; the factory one I found at New Vehicle Speed Sensor 4707386 for Chrysler Dodge Jeep Plymouth 93-97 SC105 | eBay .

I'd swap that first, see if the speedo gets happy and if the ABS goes out. Don't forget to check brake fluid levels - the ONLY thing that lights the BRAKES light that doesn't light the ABS light is the parking brake being partly set!
