Update on my hemi Dakota
I thought about using a modern transmission. The nag1 is really short and starter is on passenger side. The 8hp is maybe possible. They are fully electronic and use another computer that needs a proper tune. It's first gear ratio is 4.71 and 2nd is 3.14. Would be impossible to get it to hook. Maybe some day.
The 46rh I can rebuild, they can handle a lot of power when setup right. Not factory setup, the one I have was rebuilt and 3rd gear was burned up. Had only 3 clutches. I have a better drum with 7 now, could have put in 8 but did not have the snap ring to get the clearance I wanted.
I got on it hard in first gear, it's a lot faster than it was. The tool box flew into the back. The power curve of the new hemi is amazing. It makes incredible low end power.
