Default Update on my hemi Dakota

I'm in the middle of a transmission and rear end swap. I have a Dana 60 and 46rh mostly installed. I also have a pic of a test fit of my new wheels.

The Dana 60 is a rear end I had narrowed back around 2004 for my 77 Plymouth Volare I raced at the time. Its 3.5 inches narrower than the stock 8 1/4. I just welded the perch mounts and shock brackets and about to assemble the brakes. It has 4.10 gear and a power loc sure grip. 35 spline strange axles.

The 46rh is a tight fit. the transmission mount only needed moved 2 inches back and the factory stuff bolted right up. I had to shim the transmission up 1/2 inch to correct the u joint angle on the drive shaft. I had to fold the lip on the firewall to floor flat and I dented where the overdrive bolts to the case. I have some issues with my passenger side header. There is not much I can do about it as I cannot remove the header with the engine in. I'm going to fix it another day. I just will not be able to service the transmission as I cannot get to one bolt on the pan. I ordered a 4500 stall lockup torque converter 2 months ago. Latest update is they cannot get parts to build it. I took the stock one in to get a freshen up, they said they cannot do much for the stall speed which I knew the 11" has a limit of 3000. I will be dropping the transmission likely next year for a torque converter swap so I may pull the engine to make a new header. Driveshaft is now a one piece. Its 60 3/4 inches, 3.5 inch diameter steel with 1350 u joints on both ends.

I have new rims and rear tires. I wanted to stay steel but they are hard to get and cost more than aluminum. I ended up with magnum 500 knock offs in cast aluminum. The back are 15X8 with 275/60R15 tires and the front are 15X7 with the factory size I had before. Back spacing is a challenge as there are not many options, there rear end being narrower fixed the back. The front stick out more than I wanted. I could not find matching rims with 8" width and 6" width other than Torq thrust knock offs.

I hope to have it driving in a couple weeks. Once its done and seems happy I will get it on a chassis dyno to tune full throttle.

Once I dropped the 998 transmission and finished draining it, the fluid was really sparkly. I cannot seem to get anyone to buy it, I will take it apart to see how it looks before scrapping it. The rear axle sold.

Just as a note - where are you, and what do you want for the old A998 as a core?

I'm in Ajax Ontario, Canada. I have it listed for $100 or best offer. I let the rear axle go for $40. Not really looking for much. Only had interest for the high gear drum but they found one closer to them.

I might put it in my shed and see if I get any interest some day.

Ah. OK, too far for me

That's not bad for a good core, though. SOMEONE ought to grab that.

I got the brake lines done. I added line lock and an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear. I have an issue with the new drums as they get real tight when I bolt the wheel on. I put the old drums on for now. I'm going to get them turned and see if it fixes them.
Put the Slide a link traction bars on. I picked up the torque converter. I may tackle the transmission tomorrow.

I took it for a drive yesterday. The tv cable adjustment needs some fine tuning. I need to change the lever on the transmission. I may shorten it a bit. When its adjusted for full throttle with no slack it does not like to up shift at low speeds. The ratio is wrong at the throttle body and that one will be hard to lengthen. The 904 was not as picky. The governor weights are made for 5800 rpm upshift at full throttle.

When I did the transgo re-program kit I set everything on the most aggressive. The shifts are really hard. I may swap the separator plate in the valve body when I do the torque converter. That is where I enlarged holes for shift firmness. I just have to hook up the overdrive computer and try that out and see how lockup works.

I have a 93 corvette..... Went from a 3000 stall to a 4400 stall. That alone softened the shifts some.

I got overdrive working. Have to drive it more to see if lockup is working. The app for the compushift was frustrating as it would not read the tps right. It loses communication for live data at 50km so I could not see what it was commanding.

I used to run a 4500 stall on a fast street car, I was originally thinking it would absorb the shift. This converter is really tight, it jumps on the 1-2 shift, now I backed off the TV cable it's not too bad, it just upshifts too fast on acceleration. I need a quicker ratio arm on the transmission.

Hey Glen
I'm curious as to why you didn't use a newer multi speed transmission?
FWIW I'm not saying you should, heck, I know little about Mopar performance.......
Just trying to learn.
